The Living Voice of Bach

June 10 – June 21, 2027

Follow the Cantor's path and discover where 'Faith Became Music!'

Join Sacred Music Tours for an unforgettable journey into the heart of Germany’s rich musical and spiritual heritage at the world-famous Bachfest in Leipzig. Each summer, the city where Johann Sebastian Bach lived, composed, worshiped, played the organ, and directed music comes alive with breathtaking performances that fill Leipzig’s churches, concert halls, and historic streets with the sound of Bach’s timeless music. This is far more than a music festival — it is an immersive experience that lets participants encounter Bach’s sacred masterpieces in the very places where they were first heard centuries ago.

Imagine attending an evening cantata performance in the magnificent Thomaskirche, where Bach himself served as cantor for nearly three decades, or hearing the thunder of a historic pipe organ resonate through the vaulted ceilings of Nikolaikirche. Throughout your time here, world-class choirs, orchestras, soloists, and organists from around the globe gather in Leipzig to present an extraordinary range of sacred music performances, from intimate chamber concerts and organ recitals to monumental works such as the St. Matthew Passion and Mass in B Minor. Every day offers new opportunities to experience music at the highest artistic level within some of the most inspiring sacred spaces in Europe.

Beyond the concerts themselves, Sacred Music Tours invites travelers to walk in Bach’s footsteps through the historic streets and churches of Leipzig, gaining a deeper appreciation for the faith, artistry, and daily life that shaped one of history’s greatest composers. The city becomes a living classroom and pilgrimage site, where music history is not simply studied — it is experienced firsthand. Whether enjoying a quiet moment at Bach’s final resting place, exploring Leipzig’s vibrant cultural life, or sharing conversations with fellow musicians and sacred music enthusiasts, participants find themselves deeply connected to the enduring legacy of Bach and the sacred tradition he served.

Our journey also reaches beyond Leipzig to include excursions to the surrounding towns and regions associated with Bach’s remarkable life and career. These excursions provide a rare opportunity to see the landscapes, churches, and courts that inspired Bach’s music while discovering the beauty and charm of central Germany along the way.

For musicians, clergy, organists, choir members, and lovers of sacred music alike, Bachfest is not simply a festival to attend — it is a pilgrimage into the living tradition of sacred music. Sacred Music Tours is honored to guide participants through this extraordinary experience, combining exceptional performances, historic sacred spaces, fellowship, and cultural discovery into a journey that inspires both musically and spiritually long after returning home.

The chapel features a mid-18th-century marble statue of Sir Isaac Newton, sculpted by Louis-François Roubiliac. The chapel serves as a place of worship, a memorial, and a performance venue for the college choir.

A notable feature is the collection of more than 1,000 medieval roof bosses, elaborately carved and painted with biblical and historical scenes. The cathedral and its 44-acre close have endured centuries of English history, including riots, fires, and the Civil War, making it an important historical and architectural landmark.

DAY 8 | SATURDAY, MAY 29, 2027 | CAMBRIDGE – JESUS COLLEGE CHAPEL

Jesus College Chapel is the oldest college chapel in Cambridge, originating as a 12th-century Benedictine nunnery church that predates the college itself by more than three centuries. When Bishop John Alcock founded Jesus College in 1496, the grand, Norman-style church was significantly reduced in size and reconfigured in the Gothic Perpendicular style to better suit the smaller community of scholars. The chapel's most striking features are a result of a major 19th-century Gothic Revival restoration, which included installing stained glass by Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. from designs by artists like Edward Burne-Jones. Today, the peaceful chapel is a spiritual center for the college community and is known for its excellent acoustics during concerts and choral services.

Options for anticipated Roman Catholic Mass will be provided.

There is also a Mass at St. Hugh's Catholic Church in Lincoln. It is a Roman Catholic parish built in 1892 in the late Victorian Gothic style by architect Albert Vicars. It is known for its beautiful interior, featuring Stations of the Cross in Carrara marble, an elaborate high altar, and stained-glass windows.
